Okay so I have 2 2GB sticks of RAM in my laptop. However, under System it says "4.00 GB (3.00 GB usable)". I have two theories as to why this is happening.
1. I read on another forum that BIOS is just allocating 1 GB to my video card or something like that because it has to.
OR
2. One of my sticks of RAM is only half working.
I put in 1 stick at a time and this is what happened:
The first stick I put in, my computer started up and when I went to System again is said "2.00 GB". So I'm assuming stick #1 is fine.
But when I tried stick #2, my computer would turn on, but nothing would boot up. So again, I'm assuming that stick #2 is only half working.
So another question I have is for the time being, should I use a 1 GB stick in-place of the "faulty" 2 GB stick? It's from a another laptop I'm currently not using but the RAM is compatible.
Any ideas? The reason I want to know is I'm going to buy more RAM and I don't want to waste the money if it's just the first theory I explained that is the problem.
