I have a dell that came with 1gb of ram. Recentley i installed vista on it so i decided that i would use an extra 4gb of ram i had laying around. the thing is one of the sticks of ram was broken and also one of my 512 sticks broke too. so now i have 3 1gb sticks and 1 512 sticks. will it work if i add all those without it being dual channel.

Thank You for any help

What are your motherboard specifications?

What are the specifications of the RAM you are trying to put in? What is the PC rating of the RAM? Are they 240-pin or 184-pin modules of RAM?

Also, be careful, Dell like to have weird RAM in their motherboards, normal RAM wont line up correctly. The "bump" in dell RAM is in a different place. So first It might be worth checking if it can all fit ok...

ok i stuck all the working rams in there and it seems to be working. its just not dual channel. does that matter?

would it be faster if i took out that single gig and left just 2gb.

ps: i do a lot of photoshop and gaming.
