i just upgraded my RAM by changing out a 256mb stick for a 1gb stick & still have another 256mb stick in my laptop. so i got 1gig plus 256mb of RAM. Where is the best places to check/test how fast my pc is running? it runs way faster since i upgraded the RAM, but i just would like to check the actual speed. thanks for any replies!

What do you mean "test how fast my pc is running"? There are benchmarking programs that will give you a score based on how well your computer runs, but that wont tell you how much better it runs now then before.
And what speed RAM did you have before, and what speed did you buy? Because it may run even better with just the 1GB stick.

Actual speed? ... there is no actual speed.... , your processor won't go any faster just cause u got more ram. the thing with ram is you need only as much as you use... so even if you had say 16gb of ram it wouldnt make your computer faster if your only using 1gb of ram, infact it'll probally make it slower.
If you don't have enough ram your computer will go superslow(probally what you were experancing before, thats y you experance such a performance increase) because say your comptuer is using 512 mb of ram and you only have 256 mb the rest of it comes from its paging file or swap file(vertural mermery) its kinda like using your harddrive as ram(well it is using ur harddrive as ram)... your hard drive reads and writes way slower in comparrison to ram like really slow.

the laptop is an HP Pavilion zv6007us 2.0ghz AMD Athlon 64 Processor 3200
yes i guess i was looking for some kind of score or something to let me know i was getting optimal performance out of my laptop. the laptop had two 256mb memory sicks of ram, it is not dual channel though. you can access one stick by opening the compartment on the bottom, wich is what i did & replaced one of the 256 sticks with a 1gb stick, and left the other 256mb stick in as u have to take laptop apart to change other stick. the laptop top runs way better now as it had become sluggish in the almost 2 years i had owned, but it is moving quickly now. i guess i should just be happy & not worry about looking for a test or whatever i was looking for. thanks
