Ok if i got 1 gb of ram 2 x 512 sticks and then in a few months got another set of the exact same ones, wud i see any major performance issues compared to if i just bought 2 gb of ram 2 x 1gb sticks??

Basically is having 4 x 512 sticks of ram (all same brand. speeds timings etc)
the same as

2 x 1gb sticks (all same brand. speeds timings etc)

Thx

There is a slight performance increase in benchmarks using the 4x512 MB sticks. It's not like you will see it in every day performance though.

Why not just have 2x1gb and 2x512? Or would you sell the 512s?

As SirKenin correctly stated, making use of dual channel does increase performance in tests, but not by much. However, if you plan to add more RAM later, you might want to consider getting the 2x1GB

depends on the processor...
the e4 stepping procs have a worse memory controller than the e6 stepping procs, for AMD's...
dono how intel works i guess its the northbridge chipset that effects it though...
i think you're safer just going with two sticks instead of four, because it could switch to 2T which is up to 25% slower in some benchmarks... and could even underclock itself some in order to run well with the memory controller.

k great ive found this. Shud keep me goin until i get another stick :)

Corsair Memory CM2X1024 - 6400 1GB XMS2-6400 240Pin DIMM CAS5

Then i a couple of months time ill get another 1 :)
