Ram Question......

I just fired up my new build and I have 4 sticks of 2 gig G Slill, Dual Channel Ram. When I right click on my computer and check properties it only shows 3.50 gigs, anyone know why this is.

Running Win XP if that matters.

32-bit OS can only address that much RAM. To use all your RAM you would need to move to a 64-bit OS.

If you moved to XP or Vista 64-bit Editions, then all 8 GB of RAM would be available to the operating system. In a 32-bit OS, it is extreme overkill and of no use at all (and as you can see, doesn't even work).

Even in the 64-bit, unless you are doing some heavy video editing or CAD engineering, I believe 8GB is overkill.

Currently it's a waste. It's just not getting used.

I do do a lot of video editing and it kills the system I am on now, takes all night to render a DVD sometimes.

doubt it, but may save if so when I upgrade to XP 64bit it will be good to go.
