RAM Question

I have some Dell Certified RAM for a Vostro machine. I suppose this is the only machine that it will work in? I had a stick left over and wanted to use it in my dimension, but they have different product numbers. Anyone familiar with this?
Also, where is a good site to see what type of RAM is compatible for my machines (all Dell)? I would like to be able to find something cheaper than the Dell certified memory.
Thanks!!
:)

You can use memory made by anyone, such as G.Skill, Corsair, PNY, Geil, etc with your Dell laptop, again it just needs to be the same type.

All that matters is the type of memory (ie. DDR, DDR2). If both your laptop and desktop use the same memory standard, then yes it will work.
Not quite. If a desktop system uses DDR2 and a laptop uses DDR2 chances are the RAM is not interchangable. The laptop memory should be a DDR2 SO-DIMM, that wont fit into a typical desktop board (there may be desktop boards that take SO-DIMMs, I only know of a couple VIA nanoITX ones but there may be more).

How could I have missed that, you are completely correct. Laptop DDR2 is 200-pin, whereas desktop DDR2 is 240.
