RAM question

I was just wondering what kind of ram I should get, or if it will even help me at all. I don't know that much about computers but i have a Dell dimension 4600, its like 2.8 ghz and i have 512 ram of whatever it came with. It would just be nice to play games like battlefield 2 smoother, would more ram help alot? Do video cards help games run smoother at all, or are they just strictly for the graphics?
thanks

and on a side note, i heard that too much ram is actually bad, is this true?

oh haha, i suppose you guys are mad at me for not reading the ram 101 ill go check that out now

More ram could help but am gussing base on the computer you have that it more of a graphic card problem that causing it you not to run smooth. If you do upgrade the most I would do is put anouther 512mb to bring the total to 1gb. Am not sure if dimension 4600 uses ddr or ddr2 so you would have to find that out before I can recommend what ram you would need.

Graphic card definally have a major affect on today games like battlefield 2 on how smooth the game work. In my opioun upgrading your graphic card since you already have 512 ram would make a bigger difference then putting anouther 512 ram in.

The fact that you have alot of ram can not be bad. The reason I think someone told you that is on some computers if you full all your ram slots up it will downclock the speed of the ram.

I can give more advice once you find out what ram you have and what video card you have. Please provide these 2 things. How to get this information can be found on the following link.

Yeah but those cases are pretty limited. If you have 512+ MB of RAM, the bottleneck tends to be the CPU/GPU
