RAM Question

I have a 32 MB RAM and I was wandering if it would work on my computer. Dose a computer take any type of RAM or does it have to be a certain type of RAM. Also I have a "Win Me" and I was wandering what is the max amount of RAM that I could put into it?

If you have only 32mb of RAM then youll probly have to buy a new computer. Because the basic in RAM is 512mb and the low is 256mb, 32mb is beyond low.

I don't believe Win ME will even run on 32MB anyway.

If you have a 32MB stick of RAM and it is the same RAM that is in your computer and you have an open slot for it, then yes, you can install it. The OS does not dictate the amount of RAM you can install on the MB, the MB itself will determine this.

You best bet is to find out what kind of MB you have and do some research on it... then see how much RAM you currently have and do some research on it (see RAM 101 sticky post).

You don't see too many 32MB sticks of RAM anymore. Unless you have an older computer it is a good bet it won't work with your computer.

Windows ME's minimum requirements is 32M RAM. I'm sure that machine's struggling because my grandparents machine with 64M doesn't do to hot!

Judgeing by the RAM and the OS, I'd say you got this machine around 1999 or so(or that's probably when it was made...) It should use either PC100 or PC133 RAM, which is still somewhat available. I suspect you only have one extra slot on your motherboard for more RAM, and that you'll be limited by 128M per slot. Most computers around that time could only have 384M max, and that was only if they had three memory slots(which yours might...) Two slots, obviously 256...

You could get more info without having to open it right off using CPU-z. Just run that and it should tell you what kind of RAM you're using and all. Just remember

No. I already have 256MB of RAM but I was wandering if I could put an additional 32MB of RAM on top of that.

If it matches your current RAM and there's a slot for it then yes you can install it. You probably won't notice much of a difference but it won't hurt anything either.
