RAM question..........

Well...basically yes lmao. But there are alot of things to question before you do that.

Is it the right type of memory? Will it be compatible with all your other memory? Can your motherboard support more memory? Is it the right speed? Etc.
 
staples has a memory wizard that helps u find the right RAM, ill use that to figure out what i need. thnx

Yah, that's all it should take. If its compatible in ever way you won't need to flash BIOS or re-install OS or anythng like that. It should be an easy shut down, cut the power, plug it in, power up and go.
 
Similar Situation

Hello all I'm new to all of this but figured it's always time to learn to do something else. Especially if it can save me some $$.

Anyway, I currently have 1 128mb SDRAM DIMM PC133 installed. I just bought 2 more of the same type off ebay. My motherboard has 3 bays so I imagine I plug them in and go right? BTW what is the difference between ECC and non ECC? Mine are the latter.

I am also installing a 80gb hard drive (up from 20gb). Hopefully this will make my computer run faster like I want. I keep getting virtual memory is low messages and my understanding is that adding more RAM will help. I am also going to add a CD DVD+R drive as well.

After doing a few days research it all seems a lot easier than I would have expected. I'll soon find out.:rolleyes:

Adding harddrive space won't make your computer faster. It jsut adds storage space. It should however stop the low virtual memory. Virtual memory is your pagefile (on the harddrive) as opposed to physical memory which is RAM.

If you're totally swapping drives you'll have to re-install Windows, jsut so you know. You could use the 80GB as a storage device though and just move your pagefile to it. That's what i did...i have a 40GB and a storage 80GB.
