Ram Question...

I was wondering, if I buy 2x 1gb and shoved it into my comp, with the same speed etc etc, would it work? I have 2x 512 mb in my comp, it wouldnt down speed or anything?

if you put it in the right slots, yes, it would work, depending on the pin number and the DDR speed. You would probably need 184 pin DDR, but you dont specify if you have a socket 939 or AM2 Athlon 64 X2 4200+ or 4400+ you have.

The problem is that you might slow your computer down. It takes a lot of processing power to manage all that RAM. The more you add, the worse it gets.

You are running DDR400 PC3200 memory most likely on the Socket 939 board there with the older X300 PCI-E video card installed. The best way to increase memory there is to either add two identical 512mb dimms or swap the pair of 512mb dimms you have for a pair of the 1gb dimms of the type. If you are presently running DDR333 memory and add DDR400 the new memory would be forced to backclock to the old.

im running on an AM2, 240 pin, DDR2 800 (PC2 6400). I know my computer, but i was just thinking, could i install 2x 1gb ram stick with the 2x 512 mb rams sticks i already have in? Max memory i can have is 16 gb, so im guessing it would work, with like 3 gb of ram?

Generally when adding memory to a system to increase capacity you also will want to look at the size of the dimms as well as the type of memory being added. Going with the same size dimms usually sees a smoother running system avoiding memory issues that can appear even with mismatched sizes of memory.

That will be more important when running in the dual channel mode. You will find it runs better with even matches on both primary and secondary memory channels. Install the largest dimms on the first bank like A1 and B1 for example when mixing sizes with the 512s on A2 and B2.
