Well if I dump the present card installed now and got into an FX-60 along with swapping the 2gb of value ram for HyperX if not Corsair's xms series performance memory I would be far closer to a gaming machine right there. I would start off by first jumping from a 2.2ghz single core cpu upto a dual core 2.6ghz model. zzzzzzzzzzoom! Then add performance memory for faster timings and a higher end video card then the MSI Radeon X1300 Pro currently installed.
It also depends on the application as well. If you are not OCing and heavily gaming the increase by doubling the amount of the same memory sees a large leap depending on the OS as well. 98 was 512 with XP seeing 4gb. Yet Linux will run on newer systems with what? 4mb or ram over the essentials for the newer boards. If a board takes a 196mb total plus the Linux 4mb a 256mb dimm leaves you with 56mb sitting idle.
