ram sticks pluging

hi again,
i unplugged 1 of my 2 ram sticks (which i believe have different PC number or different CL) and when i plug it back, i get a black screen with repeated "bips".
i'd like to know how to plug it properly. the motherboard is an Abit KG-7.

thx for any help

Make sure the pins line up... there are different sized sections of pins which correspond to the gaps on the motherboard. Make sure to center the stick inside the retainers on the ends of the slots on the motherboard, and push down on each end of the stick till the retainers click into place. Then just go along the whole stick, firmly pushing down on it to make sure it's fully in.

did the pc recognize the RAM before you pulled it out?

it did but the thing is, hours ago the "ram counter" at computer start, indicated that the 512Mb stick was somehow not recognized by the comp. considering i had reboot problems with the comp at the same time, i pointlessly removed it.
now, i want to make sure it's broken and i believe even if it is, i should be able to plug it and run the computer.
besides, this already happen the 1st time i tried to plug this stick alone: the computer would keep bipping and showing black screen.

i'm rather sure how to physically plug it but i believe there's sthg else to be set

do you have another pc where you can put it into?

and if you try to fire the pc up without ram, dos it give the same beep-code, as its giving when you only have the 512Mb stick connected?

If you put it in the right way and everything, and it won't read it than you probably have a bad stick of memory.

no dudes, really it doesn't mean the stick is dead. as i already said, the 1st time i tried to plug this stick alone myself, it did just the same thing, and the 2 technicians i've asked told me so: you can't just plug'n'play. that's what i'm pointing to.

er... you can just plug and play RAM.. i mean, what did you excpect? that you need to install drives for it? (then i'm curious how that would work if you buya new pc.. then you couldnt get it started up at all ;) )

but anyway.. does it do the same with only the 1 512 stick or no stick at all?

sure, i definitly agree that basically you just have to plug the stick but in this case we deal with different PC and/or CL (i can't read on one of them) and an abit motherboard and as much as i agree with you i'm damn sure there must be a simple trick to start properly the comp and see what i really get.

i didn't try this time but as i said they're the same symptoms as when i tried some time ago with the only 512Mb stick.
