Ram suggestion plus SPeed vs SIze

Hi

1 general question and 1 specific question ;)

1, Even after reading "RAM101", I am still confused about the difference between adding "bigger" memory and "faster" memory. Going from 256mb to 512mb increases system speed; so does going from pc-2700 to pc-3200 !!?
Then what is the difference between these two?

2, Now....I've been going far too long with 512mb on my HP system. Now I want to upgrade to maybe 2gb.
These are the specs of the RAM:

Now there are 4 slots here. What should I get and what way should I arrange. Just give me one NICE suggestion.

....should i go for 4 slots or 2 slots ?
....is that DUAL CHANNEL thingy gonna work here ?
....what clock speed should I look for (ram101 faq seems written long ago) ?
....what i need is, i guess, "ddr2 sdram" ?
....should i think about VOLTAGE and LATENCY ?

These are the q's in my mind. I want performance increase in daily applications; browsing internet (dozens of windows); video editing; dvd ripping; photoshop etc plus some MID-RANGE games. And my system specs are:

http://rapidshare.com/files/53179460/Board_in_HP.jpg.html (board)

And FINALLY, do you think this a TOO OUTDATED system (i am building another one right now; this is just the additional one)?

Thanx guyz..........:D

Whats the model number on the hp?

Its probably going to be DDR 184 pin, but theres only one way to find out. Give the model of the hp and i can find out what ram you need.

You have 240 pin DDR2 SDRAM. That Kingston will do you fine. Density doesn't matter in this ram upgrade.

Yeah i found it, i thought it was going to be older having 512mb of ram.

So yeah, Its pc 3200 240pin is whats in there now. So if you get the pc4200 it will just downclock to pc3200, no big deal.

He could just take it his old stick and only use the Kingston.

Hey..... thatguyS........thanks for letting me know that it is compatible.

So I get those two sticks and use them with my existing two (to make the total 1.5 GB) OR Should I just throw away/sell my existing ones.

Which is ideal?

And if you suggest using 4 sticks, any care I should give on which slots each should go to?

THanks oscaryu.

But still confused about WHICH is the BETTER setting?

Should I have 1.5gb (with downclocking at times)?
OR
Should I have just 1gb (without downclocking)?

Whatever is better, I'll do that :(

ripping dvds, video editing, browsing (dozens of windows open), photoshop, mid-range games, video capture from tv etc (and almost always more than one thing at a time)

For what you are doing I would go with more capacity. I'd think keeping paging to a minimum will have more impact for you than having dual channel/faster RAM.
