RAM trouble....

 I recently decided to add some more RAM to my computer.... I have 1g
right now, and I decided to add 1.25 more (2x .5g's and 1x .25g) I have four dimm slots and my original RAM is in Dimm B1. The other three sticks I put in the other three Dimm slots (Dimm B2, Dimm A1 and Dimm A2) The Dimm B2 works, but the other two Dimm slots arent reading the other two sticks, I know the RAM works, but could it be the M/B or do I need to go into BIOS or something to get it to read the RAM? Or did I put them in the wrong spots? Any input will help:D ..... my stats for my computer are below......

Thanks!

Well you got quite an assortment & configuration of ram. The two 512's, are they new memory sticks or something you already had? Ifnew, I'd trade them for 1 gig of exact same ram as you large stick and run them as duall channel.

We don't live here, don't bump after 15 minutes.

Well first thing, could you please refer to the RAM in MBs and GBs? e.g. .5g = 512MB, .25g=256MB, 1g= 1GB. It would really help to be less confusing.

What motherboard do you have? Are you trying to run the ram dual channeled? Try putting just the 1GB stick in one of the A slots and see if it reads it. If it doesn't, then there is most likely a problem with the motherboard.

Ha, well I just took some old RAM from some old computers..... so I dont know the brand, my M/B is Asus A8V-E Deluxe, I am not trying to run the RAM dual channeled, I'm just trying to get it to work.

Thanks

LOL, I told you up there and it is in my signiture lol but it is an Asus A8V-E Deluxe

Whoops...my bad :o Well it supports DDR400 RAM, but DDR333 should work as well. It all depends on how old the computers are. If it is DDR266, then it might or might not work.

Well... is there somewhere I can look on the RAM to see the specs (it is RAM from another computer) eg. NO BOX

Ummm, in most cases, no. Look for a sticker, if there is none, then just give me some of the numbers on it.

The first one is 512MB DDR200 or 266, I don't know which. The second one is Micron 128MB DDR333. The first one should not work, the second one should. When trying them individually in different sockets, which ones work? And does the orignial stick work in the A sockets?

alright guys... just use cpu-z to test the timings (timings almost matter more!) and frequency of it. if it comes out 166mhz then its ddr333, 200mhz its ddr400, 100mhz= ddr200, 133mhz = ddr266.

ahh wait... it needs to be in a comp. sorry just avoiding a double post.
anyways, pop it in and test it if u can! if not, then id say yur outta luck if u wanna know for 100% what they are.

Anyone??!!

Are u mixing SS and DS memory?

what kind of RAM am I looking for? (Im a newb when it comes to specs)
The same type you originally had

alright guys... just use cpu-z to test the timings (timings almost matter more!)
- Timings matter more for gaming but not for everything
- CPUz doesnt test timings, it merely displays them, use latency.exe to do anything that could be constryued to testing

I use ss and sd ram together in my older pc anyway what is the difference between them besides chips on both sides
