RAM Upgrade for Laptop?

Hi.

Is it easy to install/upgrade RAM for a laptop?
How can I go about doing so? I don't want to break the laptop...

Is it like installing RAM on PC?

Pfft... That's for amatures :rolleyes: (Um, you really should remove the battery, AC power, and such... I typically don't, or forget :o )

But to answer your question, it's extremely easy for a laptop. Most laptops have flaps on the bottom that can be removed. Some may have 3 or 4 (usually Hard drive, RAM, wireless, modem, perhaps even fan/CPU). There's no real harm removing the wrong one, but it's best to verify which flap is which before starting. Unscrew it and gently pry it off. Most laptops have two memory slots, many with both occupied by RAM. If this is the case, remove the old memory and replace it with the new memory.
 
How do we know how much RAM a laptop can go up to?
Also, how do we know what kind it takes (DDR2, SDRAM, etc)?

I want to upgrade from 192mb of RAM on a Compaq Presario 1200 laptop to 1GB or 2GB, is this possible? :confused:

Does the laptop's processor affect what kind or how much RAM I can upgrade the laptop to? Or is it just the motherboard that affects it?

I want to upgrade a Compaq Presario 1200 laptop - the laptop has a 700mhz Intel Celeron processor - to 1GB or 2GB of RAM, whichever amount I can upgrade it to maximum. Does anyone know if this is possible? :confused:

And I would guess that I could only upgrade it to 2x 512mb of RAM sticks or can I actually use 2x 1GB of RAM sticks if 2GB is supported?
