If I have 256 ram 2700 and for instance I find some on sale but it is 512 ram 3200. Can I pull the 2700 and replace with the new ram?

yes, the 3200 will downclock to work at 2700 speeds... in fact you could try overclocking to make the ram work at its stock speed; your overclock will vary depending on your CPU and cooling :)

Yes, if your motherboard supports the pc3200, then your ram will be faster. If its not, it will just underclock it.

As people said above, it will downclock to 2700. But knowing what type of motherboard would be very helpful :)

i would just keep both sticks of ram in!
Hehe yeah, 768MB of PC2700 is arguably better than 512MB of PC3200 ... although for gaming its fairly close (personally id prolly go for the 512 setup)

Motherboard will underclock it?? Not really... since all motherboards and pcs are different, if a new memory stick is put into a old system it could possibly damage the system internal componants.
I asked this question last year and the answer was just that.... even looked in my pc manual and it said the same... wouldnt take the risk if i was you....
