RAM Upgrade

i have an older HP desktop Pavilion A220N

it currently has 2 x 256 RAM

i would like to upgrade this, my question is, what is the max that this system could take? it has only two slots, could i go to 2 x 1GB or can it not handle that?

It supports up to 1GB of RAM (2x 512MB) which isn't very much. That and you're probably running XP. You should consider getting a new PC.

thanks,

im just fixing this up for the kids to play on, what would you consider to be the best PC to fix up for this purpose out of the following.....

- HP (as described above)
- Dell 5150C
- Dell E521

Either of the Dell's would be better as they'll support more RAM and have quicker processors. But because I don't know the exact specs of either Dell I can't say which one specifically would be the best.

The nForce2 could read up to 3gb. But it really depends on what the oems bios decided to limit it to. Your board only has 2 slots so it could be 1gb.

Yeah its weird. I think calling HP is a good idea. However given that its an Asus board, if it were me, i would flash it to the latest bios and try 2GB of ram.

The more I look up the board, I bet it can read 2gb. 1gb each slot. From what I can remember the nForce2 was a funky chipset. It could have something to do with what speed memory your running. Between 266 and 333.

thanks, i just posted another thread without seeing this first, having some issues with the new ram, i will check out the bios versions
