Ram works seperately but not together

I'm trying to troubleshoot some BSOD issues....When I run my DDR3 1600 RAM independent of eachother the computer seems fine.....When i install them both, I get the BSOD....

RAM or MOBO isuue?

Are these modules of RAM identical make and model?

Put the possible defective module of RAM in a slot by itself. Then run the program "Memtest86+" for at least three hours with it. This program will test the memory to see if it is defective. 0 errors should show up.

Install one module Of RAM in slot 2 and run Memtest86+ on it for three hours. Repeat the test with the second module of memory. If you get no errors on the Memtest86+ on either module of RAM you likely have bad RAM slots on the motherboard.

Also it might help to put the memory in another motherboard if you have an extra and test the memory in it.

You can download Memtest86+ here:

I talked to a tech at Gigabyte....He said that this faster RAM should be in slots 2-4.....It was Blue Screening on 1-3 before I knew this....

I went into the bios and manually changed the timing to 8-8-8-24....The voltage apeared to be already set right at 1.5

Is that all I need to change/set in the BIOS???

Thx

The RAM he has is supposed to run at 1.5 volts. Do as Stranglehold suggested and check the voltage in your BIOS.

Is it possible he is having issues because this memory is designed to run at DDR3 1600 speeds and his hyper transport is only running at DDR3 1333 memory speeds?

He is full of it. If you run it in 1/3 or 2/4 it will run in single channel. It goes in 1/2 or 3/4. I've installed alot of DDR3 1600 on Gigabyte boards. If its still unstable try 1.55 or 1.60 voltage.

The two blue slots are 1/2 and the white are 3/4. If thats your board in the link. What processor are you running?

Is the 955 a C2 or C3 stepping? If its a C2 you might have to bump up the CPUNB voltage. Have you got them in the two blue slots? If so try 1.55 or 1.6 memory voltage

Its a C3 stepping. Should not have a problem with 1600 with the CPU or board. Put them in the blue slots and like said try raising the memory voltage to 1.55 or 1.6

OK thanks...Will try when I get home and post result...

So, raise the mem voltage, or the CPU/NB voltage, or both???

Memory voltage to 1.55 first. Then if not try 1.6. Since its a C3 CPU you should not need to bump up the CPUNB voltage.

Maybe this is a problem:
