Ram

It baffles me why VISTA would require 1 GB of RAM when Windows98 only required less than 32 MB of RAM ? Also strange is if VISTA is using 1GB of RAM then how can a computer operate with only 1 GB of RAM if VISTA is using it all ? Then why isn't the minimum amount of RAM that is put in a computer 2GB of RAM instead of 1GB of RAM ? A novice computer user might not know to request 2 GB RAM in their computer .

Why does VISTA need so much RAM to begin with ? What does it do that let's say for instance Windows XP does not do which requires so much RAM ?

I have Windows XP with 512 MB of RAM. My computer is a Dell Dimension 2400 and is about 4 years old . By the way it only came with 256MB RAM but I had the other 256 MB RAM installed after I purchased it.

Aero eats up alot of ram and Vista has alot more background services running than XP much less 98 and the reason it will still run is that after it uses up all your ram it starts using virtual memory on the harddrive (slow)
