Random Computer Restarts

Hey ALL!
Recently i have reformatted and reinstalled Windows XP Pro and software after running into a nasty virus that wouldn't go away. Now however the computer at random times just reboots.

* I know that XP reboots if it encounters a problem but i have disabled that option in SYSTEM PROPERTIES/ADVANCED/STARTUP AND RECOVERY SETTINGS/AUTOMATIC RESTART" - unchecked
* I also know that BIOS also has a setting that will automatically restart if a certain temperature is reached within the case. I also have that disabled, plus the temperature after restart was only '30' so that can't be it.

The event viewer dosen't tell me much either as it has happened atleast four times and i have cross referenced the times with the events in each category and nothing major occurs at each time that would explain my problem.

The last time the event viewer displayed TCP/IP limit reached (i have now modified that) and some MSSQL$SQLEXPRESS events (god knows what they are doing - i believe they were installed as part of Visual Studio or .NetFramework, don't even know if i need thier services running)

Any Help!
 
When it reboots does it give you a BSOD? if you go to C:\windows\minidump is there any dump files in there?
 
Since you formatted, I guess it isn't really a virus.
Are you getting any error message? Or a BSOD?

Also, in my opinion, it's a hardware problem. Formatted computer, no downloads/lots of software on it, probably a hardware problem.

You should check the power supply or the motherboard, problem usually starts from there.

Also, kind of lame, but believe me I had this sort of problem a couple of years back.
Right click on a empty space on the Desktop> Screensaver> Power and check the settings there, something might be wrong.

*Power Supply is only a two months old and was working fine before reformat.

*And no BSOD just a plain old reboot, not even windows file checker comes up.

However under closer inspection, the event viewer has shown something that might be of interest:

This occurs a couple of seconds before restart (or now program lockups and eventually system lockup).
And this one...

.. that occurs a second after the previous.

Any ideas!
 
That doesn't really cause the restart, that's a network problem.

Also, since the power supply is new, a wire or w/e might be loose.
 
It maybe a network problem, but it was suggested a hardware problem and since those are the last entrants in the event viewer i thought i'd mention them.

As for loose cable. . . sorry all been checked and double checked.

Any other ideas, anyone!
 
Well, might not be much of a help, but I've been reading a little about your issue, and I have come to the following conclusions, or well, suggestions:
Remove all newly installed hardwares and reinstall old ones, and check if it works.
Updating computer's service pack, or OS.
If the power supply is making too much noise, or if there's a loose screw under the motherboard, bad fan, etc etc, that could be the cause.

If you haven't surfed that specific address, it could do good.
