Random Freezing on Acer

I have an Acer Aspire One netbook..Intel Atom processor, 2GB RAM (upgraded from 1GB), 250GB hard drive, running Windows 7 Home Premium. Decent little machine for what it is.

My issue is that every once in a while, the computer will freeze. It will be frozen for anywhere from three seconds to a couple minutes. When this happens, if I have the computer plugged in to my stereo through the headphone jack, it will output a terrible noise while it is frozen. If I unplug the cord, it won't make any noise until it unfreezes, at which point it will start playing the music through its own little speakers.

I'm sure there's a million things that could cause this, but is there any place you guys could direct me as to trying to resolve this? Kind of hard to DJ with my computer when it spazzes out like this ;) Thanks guys!

It'll happen if I'm in Internet Explorer, iTunes, and Spotify...I don't use many other programs on a regular basis but the freezing seems to be unrelated to what program is running.
