Random RAM Question ;) LoL!

Hey I was just wondering what the PC#### things are all about on RAM? does that mean its faster, or that it works in certain mobos or what?

It's the speed rating, PC3200 has a max bandwidth of 3.2GB/s

PC4000 = 4.0GB/s
PC2000 = 2.0GB/s etc..

The numeral portion of DDR memory represents the "MB/s" of the RAM, so PC2700 is rated at 2.7GB/s (2700MB/s) and so forth (as cromewell said), there these can be related to there clock speed as such:

PC2100: 266Mhz
PC2700: 333Mhz
PC3200: 400Mhz
PC3500: 433Mhz
PC3700: 466Mhz
PC4000: 500Mhz
PC4200: 533Mhz

But, unless you get unbeleivably high on the RAM, your mobo will just slow the RAM down to the speed that it needs to run the RAM at..., at least I think Anybody want to back me up or shoot me down on this one?

I was just pointing out the fact that you didn't necessarily have to be too concerned about exactly matching the RAM speed, it would be wasteful to do otherwise, but the RAM still can be used in that system...
