Random shut downs again

Some of you may remember me posting a while back about my PC randomly shutting down at random points, well its been fine for a while now, i added my opteron 165 this morning and its done it a few times today already.
(my psu's exhaust fan stays on for 5 mins after it is shut down from windows, it also does this after it has randomly shut down if that is any help)

I read up and the opteron consumes more power than the 3800 x2 i used to own. I doubt its a faulty cpu as its brand new and it does the same as what the old chip used to do. Heat isnt the problem.

I could RMA the psu, but then id go without the pc for a few days, and i need it for college etc... I have an old jeantech 300 watt 10 A on the 12 v rail, will that power my system for basic things like word and internet?

Also, if i do RMA the psu and the shut downs still occur, where do i go from there. I guess running memtest to rule out a ram fault, i am wondering wether a video card can cause the pc to shut down completely. Can a hard drive cause this?

With an X1950 Pro? No chance, you'll have to find a way around because you need a helluva lot of power, which that Jeantech does not.

Ditto. An Opteron + an X1950 will suck like crazy. Especially if your upgrading, you'll need an good PSU for sure. Might wanna check out Ceewi1's Recommendations ...
 
If i over loaded one molex connector - could this make the system shut down? Ive got a fan controller with 6 fans, an LCD temp display, 2 cathodes, a 5mm LED a cd drive and a hard drive all plugged into one molex form the PSU, could this be a bottle neck?

Also could it be an over heating problem? ( the psu over heating?)

Umm... YES!
 
ARGGHHHH, because of the design of my PSU and my top fan i can only have one molex cable going from the PSU with the top fan in place. Ill try running my PC without the cathodes truned on and the CD drive unplugged and see if it does it then.
 
I managed to fit another molex into my modula PSU, so i have the cd drive, 2 cathodes, and my fan contorller with the fans on one connector, and the blue LCD temp display and my hard drive running off another connector, does this seem ok, or is it still over loaded?

I have found that most problems with computers shutting down its 90% of the time something with overheating. Make sure the HSF is seated on the CPU properly, try removing it and replacing it(make sure you do the same with the thermal compound).

This is not the reason for my computer shutting down because im not a n00b when it comes to cooling:D (unless its my PSU that is overheating)
