Random Shutdown

Just purchased a computer:

Intel Quad Core Q9300 2.5Ghz

500 GB SATA II 3.0 GB 7200RPM HDD

4GB PC6400 RAM

Asus P5N-D Nforce 750i SLI LGA 775 MoBo

Corsair CMPSU-650 TX 650 Watt Power supply

Windows Vista SP1

2x Nvidia 9600 GT 512MB Graphics Cards in SLI





The computer just randomly shuts down after running for short periods of time. Sometimes, it does it when the Welcome Center for Vista appears. Sometimes before Vista loads at all.

There are no error messages. The entire computer just shuts down. The temperature gauge shows that the computer is running at an acceptable temp of 84 degrees. All fans are running.

I opened the case and checked all of the connections. I even disabled the SLI, as I have heard people are having problems with that.

The computer still never fails to crash at some point.

Please help. I spent a lot of money on what is right now a paperweight.
 
Where did you purchase it from?

What temp gauge are you referring to? One on the case itself? If so, it may be reading a false temp. If you can enter BIOS, you should be able to view the direct CPU temp via the hardware monitor page. The lack of error messages leads me to believe it's a temp issue, though usually there's a quick one associated with it too during POST (look for something that says the system has overheated flashing or something like that).
 
assuming it was 84f then his cpu is running at a cool 28.9c. that's possible but he didn't mention an aftermarket cooler or water cooling kit.

i think he meant 84c. if that's so then i'd say one of the cpu fan push pins did not go through.
