i just purchased a 250G 16mb Western Digital hard-drive, and i was considering possibly using this as an external drive and buying a 36G 10000RPM Raptor. I was wondering if it was worth it right now to get a 10000 rpm HD or if im better off just sticking with my WD 250G for a while untiil more 10000 rpm options at lower prices come out

I can't remember where, but I've heard that there isn't much difference in performance between a 7200rpm HDD and a 10,000rpm HDD. Personally, I would just stick with the 250gb HDD.

yeah, thats what i figured. its not really that big of a concern for me that my files open a split second quicker or taking a few moments off the boot time

I have that exact setup and the 250gig is the 16mb cache and it leaves the raptor in the dust in all benchamrk tests. The worst investment I have made to date is the Raptor, way over rated in my oponion.
