I have a series of files that are supposed to be RAR archived, but when I extract them and try to play the video I am told that Windows media player can not play it. I also tried to use VLC media player with the same results.

I suspect he did not extract in the first place. we will see.
Or does not have the needed video codec.

Yeah i was thinking that too mate, however he has used VLC, which is normally fine. We will see ;)

I have the program WinRAR and I used the "extract" command as I have done with a similar file. These simply do not respond to the video players I have tried to use.

To extract I selected the file and then select the extract command in WinRAR. Please tell me if I am missing a step as I am not familiar with this process.

Usually these kind of files come from torrents.
They claim to have a video in the RAR's but it is just a scam.

Did you download the file from a torrent site.
