So I just bought some new stuff off newegg for my bday and it's in my sig. I got the 6400+ 3.2GHz CPU and another EVGA 9800GTX+ to run in SLI. With the card I got a free copy of COD: World at War so I'm pretty stoked. Hopefully that should do until the new AM3 CPUs and mobos come out and then I can upgrade again. So how am I looking so far everyone? No bottlenecks or issues anywhere that you can see? Thanks!

Maybe your screen, wait till you plug in a 22" or 24"...you'll probably fall off your chair when you see the difference:)

With a set up like you have, nice hardware...the screen would be my next move. A single 9800GTX can max almost anything out there on a 19" screen. With two 9800GTX+...I would say at least 22" to see the real beauty of your hardware:) That's your bottle neck I would say.

Thanks! Yea I'm looking at a 24'' wide screen right now but the gf gets pissed when I mention it. It took a while just to get her to understand that having 2 gpu's is better than one lol. I hope Crysis will finally play at full high settings now!

LOL...good luck with the house hold commander, I know how that is...I had to do a little convincing myself. I bought a Merc Stealth Keyboard and talked her into it just because one of the colors it lights up with is purple:D It was $90 when I bought it...showed her a few pictures and she fell in love:)

Really though...you are holding back a pair of 9800GTX+ with a 19" monitor. Time to let them loose;)

Ok, and then with 22" monitor 6400+ will hold it back, if only dual 9800GTX+ could offload some of the CPU work.

I thought that the 9800 gtx artchitecture could offload things such as physics, onto the second gpu from the cpu. However i'm not sure.

Well, does it matter with my current monitor? I just want to be able to play the newest games at high settings for a while without having to upgrade much.

Haha thanks, I'm going to need all the luck in the world (or liquor) to get a new monitor lol. Hey at least I know who wears the pants around here so I just sit and wait for the right moment lol.

I was actually thinking about getting this monitor when I can wear her down. What do you think?

No, i doubt it would even matter with a bigger monitor, you should be able to run all if not, almost all games at max settings with that configuration. However, i think that you should invest on a nice monitor in order to get the full experience. You'd be surprised as to how much a nice lcd monitor can influence one's gaming experience. Especially if it is wide screen 16:10/16:9 vs regular 4:3. It would also give you room to crank up the resolution, i mean you have 2 9800gtx's in sli, playing at 1280x1024 is like getting a monster truck to tow a small jet ski. Pardon the metaphor.

Ah I see what you mean. So it would be like hooking up a PS3 to an old CRT TV then? Well I asked the mrs. and she said no, naturally, so I'll be getting it in a few months lol.

Alright everyone, I got the ok from the mrs. for a new monitor, but now I can't decide on what to get, look for, etc. I usually look at the price, the response time, and if it has a DVI port since my 2 cards support DVI.

For my computer (in my sig) what kind of monitor should I be looking to get for some heavy gaming and net surfing? I want a 24'' LCD with a DVI port, an HDMI port for future proof, a 5ms response time or less, all for under $300. Can I find a good, quality monitor for this price with these features? What brands are the best to look at? Thanks!

You can find nice monitor for that price, I have seen some Acer and ASUS monitors under $300 with what you need in them. I prefer ACER and buy them all the time, very good price/quality. Usually Newegg have coupons on monitors like every week.
