Re-applying thermal paste

apparently rubbing alcohol is good for removing it.

im not sure what that means, but keep that in mind :D

It's not the best but it will perform well, however i dont know why you keep going to maplins? they are overpriced, you can get artic silver 5 cheaper than that elsewhere.

Is you card passive or air cooled?

Make sure to clean out all of the dust and maybe add a fan with some self tapping screws if there isnt one on it already

good luck :)

hello taylormsj,

i shop at Maplins because its so close to where i live and convenient,
i know somthings can be expensive in there but they do have great deals on motherboard + cpu bundles sometimes.
anyway back to topic,My card is air cooler yes but the fan is very small on it and the heatsink does not cool the memory on the card :(

its already been cleaned so the fans not dusty,i just think it needs new themal paste.

im gonna try and get AS5 if i can and probably do my processor aswell.

how much thermal paste should i put on my gpu?
should i spread it?

Shane, you only want to put around a pea sized amount on, you can spread it if you want but it will spread out anyway once it gets warm.;)

I sometimes use an Orange top up card to spread mine.:P

I use this to clean my processor etc, it's very good.

I got a bundle, those two, AC5 and some lint free stuff for a tenner off eBay.

For processor i spread the paste out, but because the chipset on the GPU is so small i usually just put a small amount on and smudge it around a bit, but i dont do it perfectly cos the heatsink will squish the paste over the chip nicely
