I have a dell 4600 and all the disks. i am wanting to wipe all of it off and start all over. i have a disk thats says OPERATING SYSTEM (REINSTALLATION CD) microsoft windows xp home edition including service pack 1a. is that the full operating system or just an restore disk? i have been reading on the forum about redoing the hd and refromating it. so my guestions are how do i do it and where do i start?
thanks for your help

That is the full install cd. All you do is boot to the cd and go through the steps of deleting existing partions, repartition, format and then install. Make sure you backup any data you need first though. After installing you may need to download additional drivers that XP couldn't install, or you might have the driver cd to install them, it should be blue in color and labeled device drivers, dial up modem will be separate cd.

i have a blue disc that says drivers and utilities (dell demension resource cd).

i have another blue disc that says drivers and utilities ( for reinstalling v.9x (capable) /56k data/ fax modem software for microsoft windows.

is this what you are talking about??

Yes, you will need those to reinstall any drivers that XP can't install itself, which are usually sound, video, network, and chipset.

thanks for your help. i plan on starting these this weekend so i don't have to rush through it. i will keep you posted.
