Re-install windows with new mobo?

Hi all :)

I just had a quick question for all the vets out there, I'm looking to upgrade my mobo to get use of the 4th and 5th gen CPU's as my current mobo only supports up to 3rd gen and I'm stuck with my 2500k. Would I have to re-install windows? I have asked around my work place and it's kind of a split opinion, mine being why would you have to? It's going to be the same brand (Gigabyte) so that makes it even more "safer" to change without having to re-install. Thoughts anyone?

Since you'll be changing chipsets, I'd do it.

'Same brand' is kind of a flawed argument, by that logic you could flash a 2011 Asus board with a socket 370 Asus BIOS. :P

Ah okay, cheers Bees. Just need to get my hands on a install disc now :(
 
Intel chipsets have changed quite a bit since Sandy, even though you don't really notice it. So yeah, I'd reinstall as well.
You can download Windows 7 ISOs for free from a DigitalRiver mirror and Windows 8/10 can be downloaded from Microsoft as well.
Use YUMI or Rufus to put it on a USB and you're good to go :)

There's a german mirror where you can download all the ones DigitalRiver had. Since they are essentially trial ISOs, so it's not illegal to download and use those (at least not in the EU).
Also then you don't have to enter a license to download and install, you can do that when inside Windows :)
