Re-Installing Vista

Hey, Im new to this forum. Im a professional Online poker player so use my laptop all the time. I mainly use it to browse the web and play on the software, aswel as regularly posting on a poker forum. So i dont do a lot of complicated stuff, but recently my laptop has been getting very slow and i feel it is probably just an accumulation of programs and redundant files that are hogging down the ram. Specs for the laptop

  • Dell Inspiron I1720
  • Intel (R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU [email protected] 1.67GHz
  • 2GB Ram
  • 32 Bit Operating System

Im not excellent at computers but have a slightly better than average knowledge. Iv got the original disks that came with the laptop ("Vista home premium" and "Dell Drivers and Utilities) Just a few questions regarding re-installing.

  1. Is re-installing vista equivalent to completely wiping the computer?
  2. Are there any security issues i should be aware of?
  3. Any other advice when doing a complete wipe?

Really appreciate any replies and thanks for your time

Make sure you backup all your documents, pictures, music, etc to an external hard drive or flash drive. Other than that, doing a factory restore is safe. I've done several with my Sony Vaio desktop PC.
