RE: SATA connectors

Is it true that devices using SATA 3GB will not work on SATA 6GB connectors? Just noticed many of the motherboards I'm considering have mostly 6GB connectors!

sata are all backwards compatible. You can use a 6GB SSD on a 1.5GB port, you will just limit the performance to the lowest speed component. Just like you can use a 1.5GB HDD on a 6GB port. You will not use the full 6GB speed, but it can be done.

If you connect a sata III hard drive to a sata II port it will work fine, but it will default to the lowest speed which would be the sata II port.

So are you saying that SATA2 devices will work okay on motherboards having the SATA3 connectors?

Great!

So besides whether or not SATA2 mobile-rack HDDs would work proper on these new SATA3 motherboard connectors, I've one other concern.

I'm hearing from some that various Ubuntu-based Linux distros have a problem with SATA2 (buggy drivers?), so what about SATA3...same thing?
Also, if I put such an OS on SATA2 HDD connected to SATA3 motherboard connector, would that make things worse?

No, it shouldn't have problem but yes most SATA II HDD do have problem. Be careful to read review before you buy it.
