Read Hdd 101, have question

I bought a Western Dig Ext Hard Drive 160 GB,7200 rpm, but with 2 mb cache for $70. Haven't opened it yet. Besides there not being much cost difference, is the reason for a larger cache that it's much faster? Because I got a great deal on this drive, to get the 8 mb cache would be more like $70 more. So will I notice much difference in back-up time? I'm not a huge computer user. Mostly pictures, some music, and then usual surfing, records, etc. I don't work on the computer every day, mostly just surf and e-mail. And I don't want to pay much more, would rather go down in GB size if necessary. What do you think? I really appreciated the Hdd 101, couldn't believe all the answers to most of my ???? were right there! Thanks!

For external hard drives it's usually considerably cheaper to buy an enclosure and an internal drive. The larger cache drive will be faster but I wouldn't pay $70 more for it.
