I recently tried to "uncheck" the read-only attribute for a folder, when i hit apply, this lil window pops up and asks if i want to apply to all subfolders etc etc, and thats wut i want to i click it andit ok, then it goes through this expected process of unchecking the read-only from all of the subfolders etc etc, but when its done and i go to check and see if read-only is still check, it still is?!??! its reeeeaaaaally pi$$ing me off because google directed me to a microsoft page that was confusing as hell and then i find out that their "technique" that i was trying to use doesnt even apply to XP, sry bout the angry tone, but its 2:30 am andi just wanna get this working, this is way more straightforward than google, but ya THX!!!

What I have had to do is go with in the folder and select everything that is not another folder inside, right-click, select Properties, then uncheck the Read-only box. For some reason, it will work on individual files, but not the folders.
