Reading w/mulitmeter

Trying to read voltages on PSU...any help would be appreciated!

Any pics or anything to help me out.

Thanks:D

You should be able to touch the positive to either the extreme left or right of the Molex connector and the negative to the one next to it and get a reading.

Generally testing a supply requires placing a load on it to measure amps as well as voltage output. If you have no formal training you would have to take the supply itself to a repair shop. Even stores like Circuit City and Compusa usually have a tech onhand that can test the supply for you free of charge. They do that anyways for regular customers.

While most multimeters have a good protection seen in them testing a supply for reliability and measuring amperage gets a little more involved then simply putting the red lead into the "+" and the black lead on a ground source or into a common "-". The pics in the old thread are good there. Filip did a great job illustrating.

Just be careful anyways so as not to short something or getting "zapped" yourself from touching the wrong thing. Playing around with live equipment is generally left up to those with at least someone experienced watching over them.

To be honest with you all. I think im just going to get readings from speedfan or BIOS.
Thanks for the heads up PC EYE;)

Even though the current in a multimeter itself is extremely low and the max is 12v one slip between two points can see hardware damage more then anything else. That's where things generally get costly. I'll give you a homework assignment how's that? "homework? !"

Do some study on basic testing proceedures and some electornics theory to learn some basics in order to comprehend things like Ohm's Law, resistance, capacitance, etc.. Speaking of capaciters, http://encyclopedia.thefreedictionary.com/capacitor

PC Eye: Thanks for the heads up! & the homework! ha! Give me a few weeks and I will get back to you on this. Speed fan or BIOS will do justice for the time being.

Thanks again!
