Ready Boost?

Ok, Im using Ready Boost atm,

Does anyone know if it actually does anything?

It seems too actually get windows too let you use a flash disk in the first place is a Task in itself.

I haven noticed any difference. . .

Is it worth having it on?

I have 1Gig of Dual Channel Ram.

ReadyBoost acts as a faster page file, where it stores commonly used files. Because flash drives are faster then hard drives, "theoretically" it's suppose to increase the overall speed, although i've used it and I haven't noticed a difference.
 
flash drives are slow, tho

even the fastest ones only have peak read speeds in the 20MB/s range

the only benefit i could think of is seek time, but i don't even know how good THAT is on a usb device....

plus, i'd think you'd still be better off with a hard drive that takes an extra few 1/10's of a second, but then proceeds to read 3-4 times faster.
 
Flash drives are slower than HDs and you would actually have to be using so much virtual memory that it goes over to your thumb drive or specify thumb drive as a virtual memory device. It also requires that your flash drive have an access time of 1ms. Device drivers are also a factor.

As of right now it is pretty much a worthless technology.
