Real Quick...........A7N8X-X......why's it differ?

My friend wants something to throw his Athlon XP on. I told him the A7N8X is the best board.

he just wants a cheap board, that can run fast......with Audio, Ata133, and Lan.

How does the X-X version differ from lets say the Deluxe? Theres not much info on this.

*Supposedly* lack of dual channel support is the big one. Lack of gigabit compared to the top model. Really not a whole wackload of difference but id still think the A7N8X is worth the price difference

Dual Channel?

As in memory or harddrive functions?

He's got 512 MB PC2700 going into it....

He doesnt need raid, or S-ATA....

The difference is more than $30.....

He could grab the A7N8X-X for $50 or so

- Dual channel as in two RAM controllers.
- The A7N8X-X does not support SATA nor does it support RAID

The difference is more than $30.....
Depends on how much official dual channel support is worth ... the A7N8X-X doesnt make any claim to dual channel support however throughput tests scored me ~6.1GB/s which is outside of the spec for single channel memory.... *shrug* Dual channel isnt a lifeshattering difference so ya go for the cheaper one :)

He's only building it for Games, School, and DVD.

If he's going to gain much of a 3dmark 2003 score with the regular board ($30 more), then maybe it might be better...

Otherwise, if the difference is really small........and nothing to be worried about.....The X-X seems to be a good buy.

Your choice.........Should I just go with the X-X...and if he wants faster gaming performance......the Video card should be next.

Sounds like the board scored you real well......sounds like you like yours.

1. If hes building a system for 3dmark .... id suggest he build a computer for himself first and enjoy it ... and then worry about some silly benchmark
2. i cant say i had a bad time with my a7n8x-x ... nice solid board ... solid easy to handle price too :)
