so i got paid out from warranty and i got an MSI GE60 Apache Pro 628US (not 215US).

i upgraded my 8GB ram stick in my broken laptop(before it was broken) to 2x 8gb sticks from corsair CMSX8GX3M2A1600C9 to make 16gb.. each stick has a sticker labelled "CMSX8GX3M2A1600C9"

what i am confused about is when i look for that part number i only find 2x4gb kits... how did i get a 16gb upgrade when using a 2x4gb kit? is the label CMSX8GX3M2A1600C9 referring to each ram stick? instead of the combined memory of the two?

i ran CPU-Z and it's telling me the part number CMSX8GX3M2A1600C9 and under the memory tab it's telling i have 16gb... i bought these RAM stick less then a year ago..

on corsair's website it's telling me i need CMSX16GX3M2B1600C9 for my new laptop which is significantly more expensive and before i purchase i want to make sure i don't have to spend more money and i can use my old ones..

Thank you

You see the 8GX in the sticker? That means it's an 8GB Stick. If you get two of those, it's a 16GB kit.

The CMSX16G is the 16GB kit itself.

that's what i was assuming... but i couldn't find the exact kit i got online using the part number..

so the CMSX16GX3M2B1600C9 is just 1 stick?

it seems to be 2x8gb as well.

There has been a few threads about this but thats how they label their dual channel kits now. I have a crucial ddr2 1gb (2 x 512mb) kit but each stick is labeled saying that its 1gb, so its just not corsair doing it.
