Ok so I posted a message a few weeks ago about this laptop that I have.

what happend is I lent it to a friend of mine to use and he ended up putting a password on the bios, so when I turn the computer on it asks for a password before I can go any further.

the laptop is a toshiba satellite A30

any help on this would be greatly appreciated..

Thanks in advance.

Very few laptops have user-serviceable boards. I've seen a couple that had dipswitches that you could use to change a few settings(sometimes resetting the bios) However, they are quite rare...

All computers should have a battery to keep this info saved. If you can find the small CMOS battery inside the laptop, perhaps removing it for a few hours would be enough to reset it. Just realize I've seen some laptops where they had non-removable CMOS batteries... I have no clue how that laptop would be.

If I understand correctly, he is asking how to remove it. I don't think it says anywhere he has reseted his bios and it still doesn't want to go away.

Did you try asking him what the password is?

it really does not matter if I make the password go away or if it is still on their as long as I know what it is.

I did ask him what the password is but unfortunely he does not remeber what he set the password at, he does not even remeber putting a password on it for that matter...

This really sucks, I dont want to have to rip the laptop apart to fix this, but its starting to look like I really dont have a choice in the matter.

Im not even sure if getting at the cmos battery is going to help solve this issue...

any other suggestions?

In this situation, if you have no laptop repair experience, I think that the best thing to do would be to just bite the bullet and take it into a shop. They should be able to fix it, but I might be around $50, depending on who you take it too.
