Really quick simple question about heatsink (picture included)

I broke the push pins on my origional HS (the smaller one), and I've gotten this other heatsink (the larger one.) which is almost 15mm thicker then my origional.

I was just wondering if I could just throw my old cpu's fan onto this heatsink, or will I have to pull the push pins off the thicker one?

And what would the difference be?
 
Those pushpins are all the same, same as the distance between the base of the cooler and mobo, and mounting holes. So they should be interchangeable, if you can take them out
 
No I know that.

I just want to know if it's alright to put the fan from the small one on the big one?
