My internet connection has been very screwed up lately. everytime i try to access a website, most often via IE, there would be loads of problems. Either IE would tell me that it cant find the website or the url in the ddress bar would be changed to "///" and IE would tell me that the address is invalid. I would have to refresh the page many times before it loads. If the page does manage to load, pictures would not be loaded and the alignment of text is screwed up. that is when i use IE. i also use firefox (thats what im using to type this right now). its a bit better but it would load very slowly and sometimes not all at. I've noticed another thing. I tried to redownload the IE7 installation file from microsoft website with Flashget. I noticed that Flashget reported numerous number of retries to connect to server in its log.
Here are my computer specs:
Windows XP Home SP2
IE7
FF 3
Please help as this problem is causing me a lot of trouble since I gota complete work using the internet.

Have you scanned for viruses/malware? What kind of virus/malware protection do you have? IDK why but I've got the feeling you may be infected...

i have Spybot S&D and Avira free Antivirus. i posted the 1st entry after scanning my system. right now, my internet seems to be fine. lets just hope it stays that way. will post again if anything happens. thanks for the advice :)

Yes you could be infected..... otherwise, i can't think of anything else that could be wrong.

Lets see if you are, in a new thread name "Hijackthis" do the following:

If after that you are still infected, please post a Hijackthis log. To post a Hijackthis log, please do the following:

* Save HJTsetup.exe to your desktop.
* Double click on the HJTsetup.exe icon on your desktop.
* By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Hijack This.
* Continue to click Next in the setup dialogue boxes until you get to the Select Additional Tasks dialogue.
* Put a check by Create a desktop icon then click Next again.
* Continue to follow the rest of the prompts from there.
* At the final dialogue box click Finish and it will launch Hijack This.
* Click on the Do a system scan and save a log file button. It will scan and then ask you to save the log.
* Click Save to save the log file and then the log will open in notepad.
* Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" to copy the entire contents of the log.
* DO NOT have Hijack This fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

We will look at your log as soon as we see it, and give you further instructions on how to fix your computer. Most of the time it will involve downloading more programs that will either give us logs to locate the malware or delete those malware.

Once you have posted a HJT Thread DO NOT make any changes to your PC unless the advisor helping you has instructed you to do so!

the problems started again :(. i've posted a thread with the hijackthis log in it (click here). thanks for your help btw.
