really screwed up this time...

Hi,

I was tinkering around with the BIOS setup on my asus m4n75td motherboard, and had changed these settings:

DRAM Frequency=auto
HT Link Speed=auto

to these:

DRAM Frequency=1333MHz (my RAM supports 1333 MHz)
HT Link Speed=2600MHz (maximum allowed for my Motherboard)

I had then hit 'save and exit' and then the computer continued running as normal, but the screen just went black and the monitor became unresponsive (kept saying no signal).

I want to change the settings back to auto, but I can't even get a screen to show up when I turn on the computer.

Any ideas on how to fix a setting without even being able to see it?

P.S: I should probably mention that the RAM was running at 1066 MHz before I changed the settings.

thanks

Reset the cmos by doing the following.

Unplug the power cable from power supply, remove cmos battery from motherboard, press the power button on the case a few times to discharge any remaining power, then wait 5 minutes. Then reinsert battery, reconnect power and boot up pc.

alright, but will doing that erase any data I have saved on my pc? (might be a dumb question, but I just want to be sure)

No, it just resets the motherboard back to factory defaults. You will not lose any data on your hard drives.

i tried removing the cmos battery, waiting 5 minutes, then putting it back in, but I still have the same result. All I can say tht might help pinpoint the problem is that the comuter sounds like it's running normally besides the screen not getting a signal.

What about pressing the power button on the case a few times to discharge power? Do it again, this time wait like 10 minutes making sure you press the power button a few times.

I did press the power button about 3 or 4 times, but I will try again. This time I will wait about 45 minutes, then I'll post what happens (hopefully a screen shows up) :)

The only other suggestion I can suggest would be to use a different video card to see if the card died. Or its possible you changed the setting to high and destroyed something.

ok, I waited an hour then put the battery back in, but that still didn't work. I changed the video card, and still no fix. You're probably right about something being destroyed, but I can't seem to pinpoint what it is.

How about trying different ram? Remove the ram and see if you get bios beeps stating there is no memory installed? If no beeps, its a bad motherboard.

thanks for the help guys!!!! I removed RAM and started up the computer, then the motherboard had an unfamiliar red light showing labelled "D-RAM". I turned it off, then put one RAM stick back in, and the light dissappeared and the screen turned on at random. It would be neat to know what the problem was so I don't do it again, but I'm very appreciative of the help and suggestions you provided.
