Really want to find a better Win XP driver for my Dell Latitude touchpad

The problem is with the standard windows one and official Alps one too on my Latitude D400, is that the stick locks the touchpad and the touchpad locks the stick, which means I can't do what I normally do and use the stick for mouse movement and the touchpad for scrolling. Any ideas at all?

Oh, by stick btw I mean that little thing in the middle of the keyboard that acts as a mouse!

But yeah it would be really good to find better drivers, as it's a shame the ones on here are so stubborn! It worked fine on Ubuntu Linux.

Thanks peeps, oh, btw I'm on XP at the moment!

Thanks,

Mike!

Hmm, it isn't really making things any better ._. It doesn't seem to allow me to put scrolling on, or to use both simultaneously. On the plus side it doesn't seem to "lock" the alternative one quite as strongly as the Alps driver did.

This is a strange one as for the most part I found Linux drivers a bit lacking, but in this case they really were very good. I wonder if there is any way to get those open source drivers working on Windows, or what other alternatives may exist o.O

This seems like it could just as easily be a hardware issue as opposed to a driver issue. It could just be that the south bridge can only read inputs from one at a time.

Throwing out some suggestions...

1)Try using the open source driver on windows.

2)install both the synaptics and original driver (I'm assuming they're seperate devices, if not then forget that one.)

also a note on the synaptics driver and scrolling....
I had a problem where I was unable to use the auto scroll thing with my laptop that had
the synaptics driver, and the problem was that I didn't have the synaptics auto program
or whatever in my startup in msconfig.

3) google someone with similar problems

hope that helps
