Have you heard something like games on the PS3 played in real time...

What does it mean, any other consoles using this technology?

i think it just means its like your "in the game" in "real time" .

playing against oppenents online. thats all.

Umm, sorta...

Real time is the opposite of scripted time.

Scripted time is where lets say you walk around the corner and enemy A will always pop out at you, no matter how many times you play the game, or how many different ways you go around the corner.

Real time is where you walk around the corner the first time you play, and enemy A pops out. But the second time you play the enemy stays back and throws a grenade. And perhaps the third time the enemy tells his friend enemy B to go in instead. Its always different. The enemy chooses what to do based on what you do.

Real time is (not really) a new thing but its really caught on. Its supposed to enhance the gaming experience. Making it different every time. Several consoles use this from the xbox to pc.

:D

QFT. Most devs use the term 'unscripted' but real time just sounds snazzier. Reminds people (or at least me) of the tv show '24'.

I haven't heard "adaptive AI" described as Realtime before (not saying you're wrong, just haven't heard it like that). Real time combat, in strategy games, is a situation where all actions happens at once, no waiting for other actions ala Turn-based combat.

It can also mean a situation where time in-game, is synchronous with "real" time, one hour in-game, equals one real hour.

I thought that was called RTS (Real-Time Startegy)?

I was thinking of RPG strategy games like FF tactics or Ogre tactics. It applies more to RPG's, but as you religiously:P pointed out RTS', are by name, Real-time.
