What kinds of things can you do with the serial and parrallel ports on the back of a motherboard? I've heard of someone chaniging one somehow to get a video output and running a tv of it.

There is no way either of those ports have enough bandwidth to do anything of the sort. Parallel ports could barely run a low quality TV capture card... They are simply for legacy stuff. Printers, old PDAs, modems, zip drives...
