if a computer catches a virus, how can one fix one's computer? can i use that windows cd (specifically windows xp) that installs an operating system (xp)? would it work if one were to just pop the cd in the cd-rom? no typing in commands and such necessary?

- you can start by identifying the virus if you can. if that is not possible, have a handy virus scanner/protection utility that can scan your system for the possible threat.

can you use the cd?
- possibly, maybe a restore? if there is any changes done or files missing and corrupted

would the cd work by itself?
- no, you will probably have to reboot and run it off the cd, then choose the option to restore if thats the approach your taking

but simply put, its better to get an antivirus program that you can always use and HAVE running so it is able to catch most of the viruses trying to get in your computer. its a plus to have an antispyware and firewall also.
