i've been noticing some of these programs that you guys use to check the performance of the components of your setup. i was wondering what programs do u guys reccomend (that are free of course) to download that would inform me about the performance of my pc.

Are you looking for benchmarks? www.futuremark.com has free benchmarks you can download, others you can purchase. 3DMark01 is free, and you can get 03' and 05' too I believe.
