Recent virus problem

I recently got a trojan horse virus, and anti-virus picked it up and i deleted it and a duplicate file it made, but it had previously stuffed up my whole computer and i had to reload windows. This made me wonder how these viruses are actually created, how do they actually start and run at specified times without appearing on screen. A ghost app is possible but, does anyone know how the virus intiates when a file is selected or whatever? How would they create the attachment or whatever to make the virus start when that program or folder is opened?

Trojans are basically small programs that can effectively give 'hackers' remote control over your entire comp.

Most are caused from opening a file (obviously), and that specific file would look something like this:

Tomato Juice + Poison = something.exe

Could be something as simple as chess.exe or computerforum.exe. You then download onto your comp and the trojan gets access and is then running 24/7.

I'm guessing you downloaded something you should'nt of?

I dont know what file i downloaded that did it, but the name of the virus was very simple. "DO.EXE" But how does the virus actually set itself up so that it activates when you open a program. Would it be written in complicated C++ codes or something? But i still dont get how you can put a program on someone else's computer that attaches itself to one of their files.....like how does it know which one and what the file path is, e.t.c. I actually (strangely enough) find viruses very interesting, because of the extreme tasks that they can somehow perform. The commands that would be used are completely beyond me.

Most viruses are written in codes. C++, VB. Basicly what a trojan is, is when you delete it, you never get it all. Trojan spreads it self to every possible file it can.

I hear ya. Some more advanced probably use code, but the majority attach a specified 'program' that then installs (seperately) when you download the attatchment/link. This then (as mentioned) runs 24/7.

One program may be, for example, a browser or link that is set as a semi-default, i.e. it will pop up in your face every now and again whilst browsing the net. Not a 'pop up' per se, but like a search engine. You then act 'vulnerable' and use that search engine. This then sends information back to the 'hacker'. However, if you DON'T use it, the hacker will not get any information, BUT will just slow your comp down considerably, and welcome it to act ''weird''.

Another may be more 'advanced', and send information back to the hacker as soon as you open/download that 'wonderful download' you've always wanted and finally found. This can then set you up for big problems.

Are you with me? There are alot of good reads out there on 'beginner hacking'. NOT intended to get you started, but to give you a basic/more advanced knowledge of the 'game'.
