Recomendations for power supplies.

Hi all. I have a AMD Quad Core Black Edition with 4 GB Corsair ram on a DFI Lan Part DK 790-FX. I am running a GeForce 7950 Gt OC for video on a 19 inch Acer flat screen. I have one 500GB SATA HDD and only one connected DVD burner. I also have two case fans and a Zalman CNPS9500 heatsink/ fan. I am running either a 450W or 500W power supply that is a few years old. Should I upgrade my PS or should this be efficient. I have not noticed any real problems, but this is my first gaming pc build so I might be running slower than I could. Thank you very much for any suggestions.
 
I have an ultra psu and it works great!! Some people wont recommend them b/c ultra is kinda a new company but I love my psu. No problems at all. Read my signature and thats what im running.
 
Yeah it is running fine, I just wanted to make sure I am getting enough power to run at full speed. I guess with all the 1000+ W PS's coming out my 500W feels wimpy. I think I might buy a modular PS anyways just because they are so amazing, but that will have to wait until summer when I can work full time. Thanks for all the advice!

I reckon 450w is the min your psu should be for good every day use ,i.e. as workstation, internet, and occasional games, but if you are going to be more demanding of it, i.e. video editing,gaming,etc think you will need a min of 550w
 
I use this computer mainly for gaming, and i just realiozed that my quad core is going to suck up 125 W of power lol, so I think I need to upgrade, especially since I am planning on getting a new video card soon. Thank you everyone! I'm going to do a new thread on power supply recomendations.
 
If he's already running the computer on a 500 watt, why suggest a different one?

And do mind, you should take one based on how much power you use not on how much power the PSU outputs. It's best to take one that has enough watts so the computer uses about half of it (for the most amounts of time) seeing the best efficiency is at about 50% load of the PSU.

I'd reccomend OCZ, Corsair or Zalman.
