Heard ASUS M2N4-SLI was a very good mobo for oc'ing.
Built machine with it--inadequate, over-rated, disapointment.

Can anyone recommend a good oc'ing mobo, allow uping voltage on cpu, etc.?

What cpu ?: AMD64X2 socket AM2
What went wrong ?: No cpu voltage increase allowance.
Cost ?: $150 would hurt, but can do..

From prev. topic this forum, need up voltage to oc this machine, thus need lose this stiff of a mobo, and get real oc sli mobo, especially one that allows cpu volt increases. Sure would like to be able to oc. Seems very, very interesting, fun, etc.. That was the chief purpose of building this machine. Sorely disappointed with Asus. Have been buliding my own for about 5 yrs., but just for me, one at a time, and have very little info., experience re mobo reputations for veracity in advertising, etc., Relied on reading some reviews on net, and thus was lead astray re. this asus mobo. Have had mobo for about 2 months, and don't know what newegg's return policy would be on this, so looks like I'm likely to take a $ hit re. this failed venture. Thanks Asus. I won't go there again. Your guidance/recommendations would be much appreciated.

Stranglehold: Do you know if those mobos you recommend allow cpu volt increases ?

Thanks.

Here's a link to the bios screens. Note, mobo not allow cpu voltage increases above stock, seems to allow only under-volting, below oem specs--can't understand what purpose this would serve re. oc'ing.

AI Tuning is set to manual: See previous bios screens link.
Has the latest bios: Asus revision 0601, Here's a link to their bios download selections:

CPU under-volting, seems screwy to me.

After I get home from work tonight, will look over the specs on the mobos you fellow have recommended.

Sure would feel better re. the DFI INFINITY NF570 SLI-M2/G if there was at least 1 customer review on new re., but there are zero re. this board.

Hey, thanks for your help. I'm not a millionaire, so the $ squandered on asus hurts. Also, might ends up with similar probs. re memory if the expensive (asus recommeded) CORSAIR XMS2 2GB ($300) memory I bought confilicts w/ new mobo. Cheez Louise, that hurts.

CPU undervolting is actually good...If you undervolt the CPU from the beginning, and run a program like Folding@Home or Prime95 for a few months, your maximumm overclock will be higher.

Appreciate the under-volting tip, but a "few months" is the coming and going of a couple of ice ages in this blitzkrieg tech world of ours. Sure would like the opportunity to work with my system now, not later.

Or, another way to do it is to find the max overclock at stock volts, and then load your CPU 100% for a few months/weeks whenever you can. You can still use your computer for normal tasks.

Well, here's a bad report, and a good report. It seems important that I pass this info. on. Might help some poor soul who plans to build a machine down the road someday.

Asus:
Talked to Asus tech. support, and fellow, who seemed hostile from his first utterance, as though he were resentful that anyone would dare to call Asus tech. support and take him away from his more profound deeds, told me "...all or our motherboards support over volting cpu's" (my quote is at least 99% accurate). Then I explained the problem mentioned earlier in this posting, and offered to email him an image of the bios screens. He then said that Asus does not support overclocking. I mentioned to him that Asus materials, etc., mention, and make reference to overclocking. He again mechanically stated that Asus does not support overclocking. Then I asked him just to help me understand the bios screens, specifically the CPU voltage screen. He again mechanically repeated that Asus does not support overclocking, then this rotting specimen of fecal matter hung up on me.

Newegg:
I immediately contacted Newegg, and related this story to them, fellow named Eric. He said that even though I had exceeded the 30 day return policy, that, considering my problem, he would give me full credit for the board, but that first I need to order a new board, and then he will give me an rma # to return the old board. I have never heard a bad word about Newegg, and I am very impressed by their understanding and goodwill. I absolutely will never buy anything from any other verdor over the net. Eric's attitude and understanding totally trumped the Asus attitude by a factor of at least 10 trillion, billion, million. I think you catch my drift.

So, please, make your recommendations re. sli oc/ing mobos.

Thanks again.

tech support from most companies is like that, but newegg is always awsome, even when they totally screw you over like if an lcd goes bad, they are nice while they do it. lol
